Help Cancer Patients Access Medications!

Akerke is a nine-year-old from Kazakhstan. On October 14, 2024, while she was playing, she suddenly felt unwell and was urgently admitted to the intensive care unit.  The tests showed that her HCG level very high, and after further tests she was diagnosed with malignant ovarian tumor, Stage IV.  Since then, she has undergone twelve courses of high-dose chemotherapy and three surgeries (removal of the right ovary and metastases in both lungs). The tumors were removed, remission was achieved, and she was discharged home. Akerke's HCG level went down to normal.

However, just one month later, the cancer relapsed and spread to Akerke's brain, spine, and both lungs. Her HCG level rose to a very high count again. As the treatment in Kazakhstan did not bring lasting results, Akerke's parents decided to seek further medical care abroad. Currently, she is receiving treatment in Turkey, where her diagnosis of  ovarian choriocarcinoma was confirmed.  At the hospital, it was discovered that her tumor expresses PD-L1, which means Akerke may respond to a newer therapy with a targeted medication, Tecentriq (atezolizumab), in combination with chemotherapy to strengthen the response.

Treatment with Tecentriq is very expensive, over $5,000 for each infusion.  But for Akerke, it may be the only way to defeat the highly aggressive tumor and bring her to remisson.  Her father is a blue collar worker, and her mom takes care of Akerke's three younger siblings. After two years of treatment, the family's resources are exhausted and they need support to continue paying the hospital bills.
