EEESMA School for the Deaf provides a life-changing education for Deaf children and young adults from San Miguel de Allende and surrounding rural communities. Families travel from far and wide to ensure their children receive a proper academic education in Mexican Sign Language (LSM) and written Spanish; giving them the opportunity to learn, communicate, and grow. As enrollment expands each year, one of the greatest challenges families face is simply getting their children to school every day.
20 Deaf students travel daily from rural areas to EEESMA. The school's passenger van safely transports 13 children each day, but many others live beyond the van's route. For these students, EEESMA purchases bus tickets for public transportation to ensure they can attend school. The costs of gasoline, maintenance, insurance, a driver, and public bus fares continue to rise. Without support, some Deaf children may lose the opportunity to attend school consistently; placing their education at risk.
With your help, EEESMA can continue operating its school van and support public transportation for students who live too far away. $12,000 USD per year will cover van operation costs, including fuel, maintenance, insurance, and a dedicated driver. $8,000 USD per year will provide public transportation for seven additional children. $40,000 will cover costs for two years. Your donations will ensure that every Deaf child who wishes to learn has reliable transportation to and from school every day.
Regular attendance at EEESMA allows Deaf children to develop language, literacy, and life skills, opening the door to education, confidence, and future employment. By helping 20 Deaf children travel safely to school each day, you are ensuring they have the chance to graduate, learn vocational and computer skills, and eventually find meaningful work. Together, we can make possible what was once only a dream: a future full of opportunity for Deaf children in Mexico.
