Help Bring Deaf Children To School - Mexico

Join us in welcoming three wonderful new students to EEESMA: Alexander, Magdalena and Martin, all of whom live in Dolores Hidalgo in our state of Guanajuato. 

Last spring, their families participated in the Early Childhood Education Outreach Program led by our Director, Juaniz Garcia, learning about the importance of early sign-language development and the life-changing opportunities that education can provide for Deaf children. In July, all three children attended EEESMA’s week-long Summer Camp, where they explored new activities, learned Mexican Sign Language (LSM), and experienced the joy of connecting with other Deaf children. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and their families made the wonderful decision to enroll them at EEESMA!

But there is one essential piece that makes this opportunity possible: transportation.

Dolores Hidalgo is a considerable distance from San Miguel de Allende, and without reliable transportation, the daily journey to school could be an insurmountable barrier for these families. By providing transportation, EEESMA makes it possible for Alexander, Magdalena and Martin to attend school regularly, develop their language skills during these crucial early years, build friendships, and begin laying the foundations for a lifetime of learning, independence and opportunity.

Their stories demonstrate the powerful connection between community outreach and access to education. Reaching families is the first step; ensuring their children can get to school is what turns hope into reality.
