As I was on my Mac writing another update for our 3 month progress report for GlobalGiving and our valued donors. A familiar ping occurred and I noted that I had a message on messenger from one of our very devoted nurses... After reading her personal message, (as well as getting the "okay" to re-post it for my project report). It became notably indisputable... I could not have wished for a better project update please read below...
Hi Linda.
This is Jeanie K. I am an INP up in the Sacramento area (Roseville) and you helped me get started a few years ago! I currently have my second 'angel' (first little girl was a T1DM - but has since returned to her bio family)... but our second little angel is a 9yr old girl whom lived in a long term Ped-Subacute institution for 8yrs! Because of YOU she now lives with a mother, father, and brother in a loving HOME! I want you to know that it really is because of an article I read about Angels In Waiting, several years ago that I started on this crazy journey! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for the help you provided a few years back to me, (it was a mess getting started) and THANK YOU for all the continued efforts to get medical fragile kiddos out of long term care facilities!
Linda: “Your message actually made me cry! I'm glad I made a difference”.
Yes...you have made a tremendous difference! Our little girl, “Angel,” was a very forgotten child. When we met her at age 8 she took only a very small amount of food by mouth. She grinded her teeth constantly and had pica. She was on a continual GT drip feed at night, with bolus GTT feedings during the day. She had been on a CONTINUOUS pulse ox 24/7 for 8 years (pretty much a ball and chain for her). She went to a county school where she was placed on the vent and in a wheel chair for the majority of the day. She was not potty trained. She was near non-verbal. She was uncontrollable and non-compliant with most anything! There was sooo much wrong with her.... but we knew she deserved a chance. After 1 year a few months being in a home: Fully potty trained. On vent at night only, no pulse ox, Gastric Tube /GTT removed and eats normal diet! Attends Special Ed Class but is graduating this spring to a less severe class with more inclusion. Can speak and communicate...and is improving daily on this! She behaves like a little girl and not an animal! We say the facility kept her alive.... but that she wasn't living! So, YES!!!! You have made a difference! And so has AIW!
