Angels In Waiting to the Rescue...

By Linda West-Conforti RN | Founder

Our Angels In Waiting Twins
Our Angels In Waiting Twins

Angels In Waiting ‘s State Law recently rescued two precious little angels several weeks ago. AIW founder, was notified by the County Department of Children And Family Services, that a local hospital was violating AIW’s California state law. 24-week premature twins, after a 5-month stay in their nursery, were being released from the NICU into a 40 bed Skilled Nursing Facility.

Studies as well as numerous documented outcomes of children from these institutional-like settings have been far less than favorable. Many of these precious souls, who reside in these settings, suffer from a condition known as Failure-to-Thrive. An infant’s psyche and brain development is not meant to have 15-35 sets of hands caring for them within a single week. As a result of this lack of continuity and dedicated skilled nursing care, many of these infants and children emotionally shut down. Soon, a medical condition known as Failure to Thrive occurs.

The founder of Angels In Waiting has personally witnessed numerous institutionalized infants and children, who reside in these institutional- like settings, literally gives up the will to live. Because of her personal hands-on experience and witnessing these less than favorable outcomes, Linda West -Conforti RN created, in 2014, a California state law that gives highly skilled neonatal and pediatric nurses “Priority Placement” over institutional care and group homes for the medically fragile foster care population.

We are happy to announce, once the hospital became aware of AIW’s California state law, that they gladly relinquished the twins to a highly skilled veteran neonatal intensive care nurse.  We are happy to announce that these two precious souls are thriving in the nurse’s loving home and they have a trained watchful eye overseeing every developmental milestone.
