Finding Forever Homes For Our Little Angels

By Saba Mwine | Volunteer Fundraiser for AIW

Angels in Waiting (AIW) continues to serve medically fragile foster infants and children through its’ partnership with the Department of Children and Family Services. Over the last year, we have learned of hundreds of beautiful angels in waiting seeking forever homes within Los Angeles County. With your contribution, we can reach more nurse foster providers to give these medically fragile children loving homes in which they can thrive.

Meet two of our angels…

Bill

is a miracle child, never gives up no matter how many bad days he has. He has endured so much in his short life and still always greets you with a smile; a very sweet smile that can brighten your day. He is non-verbal but his body language speaks a thousand words and his energy will transmit to everyone around him. You will want to talk to him, listen to music with him and even dance with him. He loves attention and will glow with excitement; his body moves rhythmically to the beat of songs!

His favorite toys are those that have multi-bright colors and blinking noises. Although his is limited in his hand movements and mobility, he knows how to maneuver a toy and pull it up to his ear to listen to the sounds, with intent interest. Jeramy also enjoys watching television and “zones” out when his favorite characters are on!

Bill is diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, Shaken Baby Syndrome, Seizure Disorder, Mental Retardation, Global Developmental Delays, Gastro esophageal Reflux, Abnormal intestinal motility, TPN dependent, Chronic Lung Disease, and Mild Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Yes, Bill does need a lot of help and 24-hour care. However, he has made a strong comeback from a near-death health condition and is making progress every day. All medical services are in place to help him thrive to the best that he could.

Bill is a beautiful child inside and out; and he will be a joy to add to any family. He is of Latino descent and was born in 2007. With patience and unconditional love and care, your family can help him grow to the fullest. Please contact Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services at 1-888-811-1121 for more information.

Michael

Michael is waiting for his forever home. Despite his multiple medical challenges, a radiance of hope can always be felt through his facial expressions. His determination and will to share his inner joy is wonderful to see. Michael is alert and he responds when spoken to. He smiles often. He can sit independently and pull himself up to stand. He is a loving little guy that loves to socialize and be around others.

Born in February of 2012, Michael is dealing with many medical issues which include diagnoses of IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), Microcephaly, Goblenahr Syndrome, ear anomaly, hypospadias, ventricle septal defect, cleft palate and rib/sternum anomaly. He uses a tracheostomy and is G-tube dependent.

Like everyone else, this little one deserves a chance to have a family that will understand his needs and provide him with unconditional TLC. Is this your family?

If you are interested to learn more about fostering or adopting these angels, please contact Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services at 1-888-811-1121. If you are unable to adopt or foster, please consider making a charitable contribution to Angels In Waiting so we may reach nurses willing to provide loving homes for these precious children.
