Dear GLK Student Supporters,
Thank you so much for your support of our scholarship student Editha. We are happy to report that she is thriving in her new school in Ntoma, away from the dangerous conditions in which she was previously situated. She is enjoying both studying and playing for the first times in her life. She recently went school-shopping with our intern, Philemon, to make sure she has everything she needs for school. Thank you again to Vera and Livia, their classmates and teacher, and Dar Reality Projects for their hard work in raising the funds to support Editha.
Another dedicated donor, Michelle, was drawn to Editha’s plight and has been writing her letters. She also put together a package of gifts and raised the funds to send it to Editha early this year.
Editha wrote back (through her guardian) that she wants to continually take her HIV medicine (at 7pm each evening) to make sure that she can continue playing and singing as usual. Her weight has also increased – a sign of better health. Because of your support, we were able to transition Editha to an environment where she can receive the healthcare and safety she desperately needs.
To expand on supporting female scholarship students like Editha, the GLK Student Fund is excited to announce its latest microproject, "Empowering Young Girls and Women in Tanzania." Through this project, the GLK Student Fund aims to mentor young girls and provide a safe space to discuss common obstacles female students in Tanzania face on their path to graduation and in life in general. Through the guidance of a female Tanzanian lawyer who has experienced the unique challenges to purusing an education in Tanzania, these girls will be able to have the confidence and the tools to navigate their educational careers.
