Director Gayle Kliever travelled to Tanzania in September and visited many students there including those supported by this project. She attended a school "baraza" (assembly) at Kibeta English Medium Primary School (KEMPS) where the top students from each class were acknowledged. It was great to see that so many of these excellent students are scholarship students of the GLK Student Fund. Among these was AnaGrace, our first student for this GlobalGiving project! This is a wonderful achievement considering that she has only attended KEMPS (and studied IN ENGLISH) for under one year now. She is truly an excellent student.
While at KEMPS, Gayle was able to share an email letter to AnaGrace from an active GG donor in Austria, Beth Domig. Beth wrote a letter and sent a photo of her family to AnaGrace - who was absolutely thrilled to receive her first letter, her first email ever! The photo above is of AnaGrace's happy reaction to reading the letter and viewing the photo (see original photo below).
Gayle also visited Ines, a scholarship candidate we plan to support beginning in 2014 (photos below). Ines lost her father last year in a traffic accident. Her mother, Theonestina, works hard at a local kiosk selling shoes, bed-sheets, etc. to support both Ines and her brother Fred. Her monthly income of approximately $33 is not enough for most family expenses, and certainly not for the primary school education that Ines deserves.
I met so many wonderful, bright, primary school age students who really need our help. I saw too many young students, especially girls, who were prevented from even attending primary school for various reasons - mostly financial. My goal for 2014 is to continue to fund our current primary school students but to add as many of these students, who are being left behind, as possible.
On October 11th, we celebrate with the UN, International Day of the Girl Child. We support the UN statement: "The fulfilment of girls’ right to education is first and foremost an obligation and moral imperative."
Help us help these young children to attend a good primary school and learn in a challenging and nurturing environment. Donate to help AnaGrace, Ines, and others.
