Goodluck Makes a Change

By Gayle Lyn Kliever | Project Leader

Goodluck
Goodluck

Goodluck came to us in the summer of 2025 when he was seven years old. He was accompanied by his widowed grandmother Florence. Goodluck’s mother, also a widow, was working at selling vegetables to support her four children. Her husband, a policeman, was killed in 2024. The two women had consolidated households to help support and raise the young children.

Goodluck’s academic story was similar that of another GLK scholarship student, Egbert (see our GlobalGiving Report from February 2026). They were both enrolled in the same government primary school that touted itself as an English Medium school – with the school fees to match. Unfortunately, with over 175 students in one classroom with one teacher, the academic future of the boys was dismal.  After interviews and research, Goodluck was accepted by our scholarship fund and was transferred to Lakeview English Medium Primary School in January of 2026.

On April 17th, GLK representatives Gayle and Arnold visited Lakeview School to check in on three GlobalGiving (GG) scholarship students. This was a first-time visit to the school for Gayle, and it came on the morning following a huge nighttime storm which left the lakeside school flooded. Maneuvering between classrooms and offices was quite a challenge. The staff was very helpful and welcoming.

In Class Two, we found Egbert and Goodluck, and in Class Six, we visited another GG student, Joan.  We spent some time together in their classrooms and then the three wrote thank you letters.  Each one expressed their gratitude for the support they receive from GlobalGiving and reported that they are doing well in their studies.

Thank you for supporting our students who struggle to succeed in difficult situations.
