By Gayle and Jessica | Project Coordinators
We were fortunate last week to speak (by Skype) with Anagrace, our first scholarship pupil for this project. She was a bit perplexed to be speaking to a computer at her new school - Kibeta English Medium Primary School (KEMPS). There are few computers (and no electricity) in the village from which she came. But she was very polite and expressed her "Thank You" to us for getting her into a good school with a safe place to live. Her head teacher says that she is such an excellent student. It will take some months before she feels completely comfortable in English (her third language), but she is already #1 in her class in mathematics and has excellent grades in all of her subjects.
We are all so proud of Anagrace and what she has already accomplished in the short time she has been at KEMPS. Young girls are especially vulnerable when they are not protected and educated. What a great difference this project is already making in her life!
So far, the GLK student fund has raised $5,820, with an average donation of $52 from 112 generous contributors to help support young Tanzanians in primary school. Now that Anagrace has been settling in well at her new school we anticipate shifting our focus to one of many deserving students in Tanzania. Thank you especially to our recurring and repeat donors.
Your faithful support makes a huge difference in the life of Anagrace and of other young Tanzanian students yearning for the education they deserve. We had hoped to share confirmed news of Evelyn's access to a new school by now, but news in Tanzania has its own timetable. We will share good news of Evelyn as soon as we receive it. There are many other scholarship candidates waiting for the same chance. Give generously as you are able and help change the world!
Thank you from the volunteers of the GLK Student Fund, Anagrace and future scholarshp students
