Aaron was born in Bukoba,Tanzania in 2014 as the fifth child of his mother Serestina who became a widow in 2015. Since her husband's death, Serestina has been struggling to raise her five children alone. She does not have permanent work but sometimes works on other people's farms with a daily pay of Tsh 3,000 (about USD 1.30).
When we met Aaron in 2020, he and his two close friends, Neema and Sarah, had not yet been to any formal school. The children seemed bright and able to learn, but they were not in school at all, and the families needed to secure the basic necessities of life before they could focus the goal of school.
We were able to get the trio of friends set up at a well-respected primary school and even paid for them to board there so that they could live in an environment - complete with regular meals and safe living quarters - that was conducive to learning. The three friends were so happy to be at a good school that they have been working hard and encouraging each other to do well in their classes. Aaron received 'A's in most of his subjects this last year - including in math and reading.
Thank you for helping us to support deserving students like Aaron.
