In order for each child to reach their full potential, we need to ensure that in their first years of life they receive, in sufficient quantity and quality, protection, care, affection, nutrition, health, stimulation and learning opportunities, positive interactions and play. Without them, her rights and abilities will be irreversibly affected. In Oaxaca, around 21 out of every 100 children under 5 years of age suffer from chronic malnutrition (20.7%) and more than a third of children between 1 and 4 years of age suffer from anemia (34.7%). In partnership with CEMEFI and Fundación Soriana, we launched a project to promote healthy eating for children in early childhood from rural communities in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca. The project started with the delivery of 600 green nutritional packages with food orientation guides to 150 children from 0 to 5 years old, a nutritional diagnosis has also been made with anthropometric and hemoglobin measurements to the project participants, workshops have been held on school nutrition education for teachers and parent committees. 35% of children have malnutrition and 15% have anemia. A work has been started to raise awareness among their parents to improve the diet at home and we are pleased to see that they are cooking the recipes with a greater quantity of vegetables and that the children are eating healthily. The project will continue until August, hoping to deliver 1,800 green packages.
Thanks to your support, we may be able to continue working so that children have better opportunities to achieve full development even if they live in adverse contexts. With your support we can feed and nurture their smiles.
