father reading to his son
During the pandemic, domestic violence derived from the toxic stress suffered by both parents and children has increased. This stress is caused by economic, health and school problems, it has generated a distancing in families, because parents are absent for many hours a day to be able to work or generate income to cover basic household expenses. As a response to this problem, a Reading Strategies program called "stories for the home" was implemented in which, through workshops, mothers and fathers are trained as readers. To date, more than 300 books have been read by 30 families. Thanks to this activity the children have improved their language and communication, they are more confident and capable of expressing their feelings and emotions. Parents have managed to strengthen their educational role, and reading has become a dialogue of love with their children, because many of them have this inability to show feelings and emotions, because they were not educated with love and affection. But being able to take a book and tell a story to your son to sleep, has been a gesture of love that has resulted in a stronger relationship and a healthier coexistence.
During the pandemic, many needs have been revealed, not only economic or material, but also affective, that need for love and affection that children need and need their parents to grant them. Thanks to you, families can be accompanied to live this crisis and remind them that they are not alone and that there is always hope.
