He lost an ear, but, he didn't lose hope.

By Christine Morrissey | Project Leader

Meet our new arrival Donovan the Baby Goat.

At only nine months of age, Donovan has fought some tough battles in life so far.

Donovan was living the typical life of a goat in a Future Farmers of America (FFA) high school program until tragedy struck. Two 100+ pound dogs broke into the school farm at Pacheco High in Los Banos, California and mauled Donovan and his herd mates.

Donovan nearly died from the injuries and subsequent wound infections he sustained on his head, neck, and left ear in the attack. The raging trauma to his ear was so severe a veterinarian needed to amputate his ear completely.  The school, especially student Zackary who was originally raising Donovan for slaughter, rallied behind Donovan during his long recovery. One thing became very clear during this time - everyone at the school fell in love with this little lad.

Unlike the vast majority of FFA animals, Donovan would not be destined for slaughter. Zackary and his agriculture teacher organized a life-saving effort to divert Donovan from the auction yard.  A few weeks ago, Zackary emailed us with a request we couldn’t refuse. Our answer to Zackary’s request to provide sanctuary for Donovan was a resounding YES.

Donovan is now home at our sanctuary. As our new kid settles in at the sanctuary, you can make Donovan feel right at home. Our little lad is CL-positive (a drug-resistant bacteria he will carry inside of him for the rest of his life).

With your support, we can ensure Donovan is healthy and happy for his entire life at the sanctuary. On Wednesday, July 18th (starting at 6 am PST), your donation to Donovan will be matched for a limited time only.

Your compassionate support saves lives - thank you for supporting Donovan.
