The Covid period has affected many families in Kangemi economically to the point whereby they are not able to provide education to their children. Most of these children roam the streets aimlessly leaving them exposed to harmful malpractices. This is where The Ngao Foundation came in to provide education support to those who are most vulnerable.
This report will give an update on the progress made for the months of January, February, and March, During this period 2, the students did national exams to complete primary school. Five secondary students did the Kenya Secondary Certificate Exams (KCSE). There are also 4 students in TVETs and one of them is graduating on 13th April 2022, Since March all the students are on long holidays.
During the holidays the organisation engages them in topics such as drugs and substance abuse, peer pressure, personal hygiene, self-confidence, dancing, games, reading storybooks and arts & crafts etc. These topics are designed to equip them with knowledge so that they are able to cope with life challenges. These education activities also prevent them from engaging in harmful activities such as drug and substance abuse, stealing or sexual exploitation.
Challenges.
There are so many vulnerable children in Kangemi who are not in school but due to limited funds, we are unable to take them to school or even sustain some of them. A donation of $70(tuition fees) monthly is able to sustain the education of secondary students while $50(tuition fees) can sustain a student in primary school for 2 months. Any kind of donation will be highly appreciated because it will enable us to keep these children in school avoiding them being sent home.
