50% of women in Guatemala will face domestic abuse, with that number likely higher within Indigenous and rural communities. AMRIS has a Safe Space (Espacio Seguro) within rural Huehuetenango for women to access psychosocial support. This project will support 800+ women and manage 75 cases requiring accompaniment and referral to specialised services for protection and legal assistance. 10 information sessions will be held to promote violence prevention, women's rights, and access to services.
50% of women in Guatemala are impacted by domestic abuse which affects women's safety, participation, and holistic development. This problem is even more prevalent in Indigenous and rural communities. Although some institutional services exist, many women face difficulties accessing timely information, guidance, and support when they experience situations of violence.
This project will allow AMRIS's Safe Space to be strengthened to provide psychosocial support to 800 women and manage 75 cases requiring accompaniment and referral to specialized services. In addition, 10 information sessions will be held with community organisations, including both men and women, to promote violence prevention, women's rights, and access to available services.
Strengthening AMRIS's Safe Space will contribute to the continuity of essential psychosocial care, guidance, and support services for women facing violence, expanding access to specialised support in rural communities where institutional coverage is limited.
