EarthShare Oregon helps 80 environmental nonprofits connect to people like you.  Most of our donors know our biggest member nonprofits' names: The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund and other national groups.  But have you heard of Institute for Applied Ecology? 

Smaller, local charities like IAE provide critical services to our environment -- and also educate our kids about environmentally-friendly living!  Here's a great story from IAE, that shows just how they're helping grow the next crop of low-impact Oregonians!

Institute for Applied Ecology (Corvallis): 
"On one of our field trips this year, there was a little girl who REALLY didn't want to get dirty.  To her, mud was one big 'ewwww!'  One mucky, muddy day in February changed that.  The education folks from IAE took her class on a Field Planting Day to a wetland prairie, where the kids would plant the plants they'd grown in the greenhouse for months. The kids ran through the mud to find their plantin spot, except for the little girl who tiptoed across the mud to find the least gooey place.  She put on her gloves and gingerly dug with her trowel.  Hours of planting passed when the sun finally pierced the clouds.  The kids went wild -- rain jackets tossed, running, laughing, planting.  The joy was contagious.  In a whirlwind, our mud-hating girl threw her jacket aside, smeared mud under her eyes and up her arms past her elbows.  She smiled, laughed, planted, and loved it.  The day closed with a call to get back on the bus, but not yet for this new nature lover, who cried out:  'No, no, just one more plant!  I just need to get one more plant in the ground!'
