Between July and September, the women’s cooperatives in Kayonza District moved from training into production, putting the Good Agricultural Practices they learned into action on a range of horticultural crops. Two cooperatives grew French beans for export, while another cooperative focused on strawberries, which are being sold fresh in local markets. A further cooperative grew tomatoes inside a greenhouse, with the support of a partner. The tomato and strawberry harvests are still under way, so we do not yet have final results from the quarter, but it has been encouraging to see the women applying their training to real crops. We look forward to sharing more once the harvests are complete.
