Help 55 Young Colombians who fight against Cancer

By Yolima Mendez | Project leader

Thanks to your contribution our program Youth in Contact continues supporting more youngsters with cancer.

Today I’d like to tell you that we count with over a hundred youngsters both with cancer and survivors associated with Funcolombiana. Some of them are currently under treatment and other kids’ support –those who have survived cancer– is very valuable to them.

Last July 30th we created a support group directed to youngsters on which we learned to identify and control our emotions with the help of a psychologist and a yoga female instructor. It was a different morning in which we also learned to express and accept our emotion assertively.

More than 20 youngsters gathered outdoors and shared a picnic-breakfast. There they talked about the importance of recognizing emotions as a natural condition of human beings and how fundamental it is to count with a sensitive and unconditional network of support during and after treatment.

The testimonies were abundant that day. David, however, a 17-year-old kid, one of the beneficiaries of our support program, says: “The learning I have had with my cancer has been very big. Changes in my life have been harsh but also valuable because one learns to manage a healthy and different kind of life. I have known dear friends; the hospital because your new home, here they are all very special and are always looking out for you so nothing bad happens”.

What do you think about this project? Do you have a suggestion so that we can improve ourselves?
