Visits by young survivals to young people in treatment had wonderful results because we found patients are more motivated, more security in the process and hope to received advices and encouragement from young people that had been through the same health situation.
Reviewing the visits, we found families willing grateful to hear testimonies of life that strength family unity, promote support networks and adherence to treatment.
Such is the case of Mariana; patient of fourteen years old that suffers Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia that had been affecting in her emotional area. The mainly fear of Mariana, was the reconstruct of her social area, due to this had quite decreased. For this case, the Leader of the young group visit her and made her life statement creating a huge change in Mariana’s life, now she shows interest in her treatment and is on contact with young people of the group and in her mother opinion, she affirms, that Mariana is now demonstrating more optimism and resilience.
In the same way we found Andres, with the diagnosis of Leukemia with sixteen years old. This young boy presents a lot of doubts about her bone marrow transplant, a procedure suggested by her doctor. A young volunteer who had been through the same process had a meeting with Andres and his family and gives them a psycho-education and the tranquility that the family needs.
Undoubtedly, it is a great program because you bet on the psycho-education, the empathic support and the hope that many of these young people need.
Finally, we want to tell you that this year we have planned more workshops with young people in treatment, the will receive a very special book called Handbook for Happiness and receive workshops to find a greater sense and meaning to his life.
