Celebration of love and friendship

By Sinders Rincon | Coordinator of the childhood cancer program

Thanks to your support we can accompany and inspire young people with cancer

At the Colombian Foundation for Leukemia and Lymphoma, 15 years ago we created a group of young cancer survivors to support young people undergoing treatment. This group is called Young People in Contact and has remained in place over time to accompany young people undergoing treatment, inspire them and motivate them.
We want to share with you that last September we celebrated love and friendship within the hospital, on the initiative of some young people undergoing treatment. The health personnel were constantly on the move due to the demands of their role, however, it was inevitable to pause and observe how the young people and their families had fun sharing smiles and gifts. Angie, a 15-year-old girl diagnosed with acute leukemia said that she felt happy, and she said it from the bottom of her heart because days before she had been in the Intensive Care Unit. This meeting with other patients and with the nurses meant a lot to her, it was a warm and motivating welcome after having gone through such difficult days.
In the celebration of love and friendship, each patient painted a canvas for another patient, highlighting their qualities and virtues. At the end, everyone shared their paintings and gave them to another patient. It was a very emotional and meaningful moment for the patients and the health personnel. From the Foundation we want to promote and support more activities like this.
Will you join us to support us?
