Project Report | Feb 23, 2022
World cancer month

By Sinders Rincon | Yolima Mendez

Thanks to your support we have been able to continue our support and accompaniment to young people with cancer

Stalin is part of the group of Young People in Contact of the Colombian Foundation of Leukemia and Lymphoma, he is 21 years old and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2018 even though he was a minor. Three months ago he received a bone marrow transplant, after overcoming several administrative barriers with his health insurer.

Last Wednesday, February 9, in partnership with Rappi and the Colombian Red Cross, we carried out an activity to commemorate World Cancer Month. We met in a park near the Foundation's headquarters and a 4-legged messenger arrived there, a very friendly dog, in charge of bringing a gift for cancer patients. There, a powerful message was delivered to the patients and they were encouraged to continue believing in their strengths and abilities.

Stalin, along with other patients, had the opportunity to reflect on cancer, on the difficult test that it means for any person, but also on the great lessons and learning that it leaves for families.

At the end of the activity we talked with Stalin and his mother who recalled the path traveled from the moment of diagnosis and all the ups and downs experienced in the treatment process. Today his hope in a definitive cure is the great illusion and dream of this family.

Stalin is grateful for the support of the Foundation, as well as for the opportunity he had and has had to meet other young people who, like him, have been diagnosed with cancer. He wishes to continue participating in activities to motivate and accompany other young people in treatment and hopes to be able to inspire them with his testimony.

What do you think of this support program for young people with cancer?
