The Independent Living Program (ILP) is CJFI’s newest program that is currently on its pilot implementation. This program is intended to benefit children under CJFI’s care as a continuing intervention to its Residential Based Support Program (RBSP).
While RBSP provides rehabilitative services to abandoned, orphaned, neglected and dependent children with the end view of reintegrating them with their families and communities as a socially functioning individual, ILP focuses on preparing the beneficiaries for life in the real world.
The program aims to increase the children’s chances of success in terms of their ability to provide for their own needs, strengthened resiliency in adverse circumstances that they may encounter in life, strong moral ascendancy, and a strong belief and faith in God.
Recently, the children under CJFI's Independent Living Program (ILP) were given the chance to attend CJFI's Basic Multimedia Training and Computer Literacy Program held at the CJFI Davao Center.
A number of ILP beneficiaries who showed interest signed up for one or more of the classes available which include Basic Graphic Design using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign, Video Editing using Adobe Premiere, English Writing Class, and Basic Web Design and Development.
The Multimedia Training and Computer Literacy Program aimed towards unlocking the creativity and skill of the interested ILP Beneficiaries who may pursue a related career in the future.
The classes were facilitated by CJFI IT staff and personnel who used a practical or applied approach to teaching the courses. The students were required to produce an output after every session using the tools and techniques they have learned in each workshop.
A total of 68 children participated in the sessions which included a mix of RBSP and ILP beneficiaries who signed up for the workshops which were scheduled every week for the whole month of June.
The workshops had an excellent impact on the students who were even able to apply what they have learned in some of their school projects.
The children proved to be quite talented and it was a great thing to be able to channel their energy and creativity into something useful and productive.
