CONTENT COVERED

Despite failing to raise much funds for the project on the Global Giving Platform, HOCIC continued to partner with Fountain of Hope in supporting program costs in Chimanimani. On the ground the team managed to Partner with the local authorities and worked closely with the Department of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE). As a district, Chimanimani have received an overwhelming amount of aid since the disaster and it has been very helpful. Working with stakeholders on the ground from government departments and other NGOs avoids a lot of duplication of aid which at times can result in unsustainable impact.

The team managed to distributed stationery to 292 children at Tilbury Primary School and dignity packs to 400 girls at Chimanimani High School. Besides distributing stationery and dignity packs (Panties, Soap, Towel and Sanitary Wear) the organisation conducted a training on how to make reusable sanitary pads and to tour the areas to find out what changes have happened since the last visit to the area and to assess the recovery from the disaster. The team continued to offer psycho social support to children affected by the Cyclone through child friendly tools such as puppetry, poetry and storytelling.
