Our first building is complete

Our completed 1st building
Our completed 1st building

The Management Board of Nenkashe Education Centre sincerely thanks all of our donors for helping us complete the first phase of our building project.  We have been able to complete the fencing of a portion of land we own and we have completed construction of our 1st building and a double pit latrine.

In early January 2017, we plan to have an opening ceremony to share our joy with the community and start recruiting pupils for our Early Childhood Education (ECD) programme which will start as a nursery school from next year.  Plans to get certification from the government for this project are at an advanced stage and we expect that it will be obtained before the date of the opening ceremony in January.

Some work that we need to do before the opening ceremony will include tidying up the area after the construction and planting some trees because currently, not a single tree stands in the compound.

We love visitors.  Nenkashe Education Centre received the Shenk family from the United States who had come to visit the project and meet the girls.  We visited AIC Girls Primary School where some of our girls study and we had about an hour visit with them.  The Shenk family had a chance to entertain the girls by flawlessly singing a song in Kiswahili.  We then drove to the project construction site and inspected the progress of the building.

We used large pieces of concrete slabs, a technology from China, to build the walls of the building and ascertained that you get a quality concrete structure and financial savings by using the concrete slabs instead of building stones.

Nenkashe cherishes your increased support this year because we have 10 girls in high school and one in university.  It is going to be more expensive for us to sponsor the girls at this level but it is also our wish that they acquire higher levels of education because it is this level of education that will enable them to lead more successful lives in the future.
