Hope Never Dies

By Leonard Lenina | Project Leader

In our line of work as social workers we get an un-paralleled opportunity to see hope being demonstrated in the lives of many young people who we serve.  This month we want to share with you the story of Abigale who overcame high odds to go to school.  First, Abigale is from a single parent family and since her mother could not afford to send her to school on a regular basis, she at one time stayed out of school for an entire year because of lack of school fees.   Abigale never lost hope.

She was introduced to Nenkashe Education Centre by our network of teachers who monitor student needs and help connect them to sponsors.  Upon becoming a sponsored student, Abigale continued to prove her academic ability by scoring a B (plain) last year in her secondary final examination.  She is now waiting for placement at a national university where she is interested to study to become a pharmacist.

Nenkashe Education Centre aspires to continue instilling hope into the lives of young people that we support.  Our vision remains to have a vocational school where Early Childhood Development Education will be taught as well as Life-skills Training and crafts.

Our Early Childhood Development program is working very well collaborating with parents in providing a secure place to give quality pre-school education to children between the age of 3 to 5 years.  Before the establishment of the Early Childhood Development program, all the children of pre-school going age would remain at home because the nearest ECD program is 7 kilometers away and there is no public transport in the area.  They never had a head start in primary education.  But today, our ECD program ensures that children transition comfortably into primary level education and his helps them enjoy and excel in their early education life because they are better prepared.

We appreciate your partnership in helping Nenkashe Education Centre to provide a conducive learning environment for the vulnerable children.
