We Hosted the Governor!

By Leonard Lenina | Project Leader

Nantayio greets the Governor

Following a devastating drought which decimated livestock in Kajiado County and most of the country, rains started early this year and persisted for 3 consecutive months.  Landslides which followed affected a number of homes and schools but spared learning institutions where our children study.  Our 34 sponsored children in various primary and secondary school were able to study in their schools uninterrupted by the effects of heavy rains.

We now officially have 13 children in Standard 1. This is significant because these young children will not have to walk 12 kilometers each day to school and back home.  They, together with 22 pre-school children will get quality education in their community at Nenkashe Education Centre.  A major challenge before us now is to continue building classrooms and expand the school to accommodate the growing demand for primary school education in the area.

The Governor of Kajiado County visited Nenkashe Educational Centre to see for himself how the institution is benefitting the community and the county.  The Governor said that Early Childhood Development education is essential in preparing children for primary education.

He lauded the sponsorship program that is supporting 34 students to primary and secondary school because the transition rate of children from primary to secondary school is very low, standing at 54%, according to him.  The Member of County Assembly (MCA) for our ward accompanied the Governor to the school.

In the next quarter we will hold our Annual General Board (AGM) meeting to assess our impact and strategize for the continued support of the 34 older children in primary and secondary school and the further development of our pre-primary and primary school project.  It is certain that we shall need your support more in the future as we expand Nenkashe Education Centre to meet the educational needs of our children.

We cherish your continued support and prayers!
