Dear Supporters & Friends,

Your continuous support to the project helped us in further strengthening the process of training Women leaders in Financial Management. As a part of that process, Utthan conducted financial management workshop in May 2018. Major Outcome of the workshop was women federation’s leaders were motivated and it helped them to build up a plan to initiate small businesses which will help individual women members and the federations. So as per their plans, in tribal area Vanita Sangathan has started honey bee keeping and in coastal area Samarthan Mahila Mandal started Sanitary Napkin retailing.

Honey bee keeping: To encourage federation members to take on Honey bee keeping as a viable livelihood alternative, an awareness meeting was organised by Utthan in Bhorva village of Dahod. A total of 17 women members from 5 villages participated, they were briefed about the honey bee keeping business, its financial benefits and how it can be effectively implemented in the tribal areas of Dahod. After the meeting federation passed a resolution to prepare a strategic business plan to effectively implement Honey bee keeping business in the tribal areas of Dahod and Mahisagar. Utthan facilitated the process by collaborating federations with various government and non-government organisations such as Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and Waghbakri who will provide technical and financial support in Honeybee keeping business. With the help of KVIC, an exposure visit was organised where women members visited an actual implementation site of Honey bee keeping. Women learn about technical as well as financial aspects of the bee keeping business. As a result of the meeting and exposure visit, 3 women farmers have shown interest in taking up honeybee keeping business. With the help of Waghbakri, a total of 25 honeybee hives boxes have been installed at the farm of three women farmers. KVIC will further provide technical training to these women farmers.

Sanitary Pad Retailing: In coastal area of Bhavnagar, federation organised a meeting for discussing upon the business model of sanitary pad retailing and providing federation members a source of livelihood. A resolution was passed by the federation members and followed by that a three meetings were organised in which a total of 108 women participated. Women were briefed about the commercial viability of sanitary pad selling and also health benefits of sanitary pads. Outcome of that meeting is 25 women have agreed to sell the sanitary pads. Utthan initiated the sanitary pads buying process by approaching different vendors and finally 1000 pads were bought. Selected 25 women from the federation will start the selling of sanitary pads

As a part of our continuous skill and capacity building process, further technical and marketing skill trainings will be provided to federation women of coastal and tribal areas in the coming months.
