Situation Background

Due to the political situation in Myanmar and the COVID-19 pandemic, accessing education has become a difficult task for students from Myanmar. Many Myanmar migrants receive education from Migrant Learning Centers and in refugee camps. The education received there is not recognized and certified. The GED Program at BEAM is a great opportunity for these students to obtain a recognized certificate the globally can help them to get accepted into university The GED program at BEAM is an important option for students from Myanmar to further their education and expand their future opportunities. Moreover, the BEAM GED Program is free of charge for students, thus students need not worry about financial constraints.

What’s happening now at the program?

The GED Online Program follows a self-study structure. Students learn from the remote learning platform, provided by BEAM, and can take part in lessons when it is convenient for them. This allows students that are working or have other commitments, to balance their studies with other aspects of their lives. BEAM GED teachers have a check in with the online students once a month to check their progress. The current GED Online Program has been running since October 2021, and will conclude in December 2022.

What’s next?

Through the funding received on GlobalGiving, students who are ready will soon be taking the GED tests and examinations. The funds will be used to pay for these tests and exams. The students are currently in their third semester of learning and are nearly ready to take the exams and are preparing. Once students pass all needed GED exams, this will allow them to start applying for university.
