Dear Friend,
I would like to personally thank you for your generous donation to Bright Beginnings. As you know, Bright Beginnings is a child and family learning center that is dedicated to serving families with young children and without homes. Since the beginning of our GlobalGiving campaign in November 2018, we have already served more than 200 children (and their parents) with early childhood education and wrap-around support that will allow them to learn and thrive. Thank you for helping to make that possible!
We have been very busy these past few months, but one of our most exciting updates is that we officially rolled our LENA language tracker project! Bright Beginnings is collaborating with Education Leaders of Color (EdLoC) and the University of Chicago to address the language acquisition disparity that exists between low-income children and their higher-resourced peers. Bright Beginnings utilizes LENA data collection devices to track how many words children are exposed to, and to analyze language usage and vocal interactions between children and their parents and teachers. The results inform how parents, caregivers, and teachers personalize interventions for students and families in order to make sure each child is receiving targeted support. Our first LENA Grow day was held on Thursday, November 29th. Since then, we have held six LENA Grow sessions with a total of 24 pre-k children and three sessions with our home-based families.
We look forward to keeping you updated on our accomplishments as the project continues. For weekly updates, subscribe to our newsletter by visiting www.bbidc.org. Thank you again for your support!
Sincerely,
Michela Roberts
