Visit of the director of UNHCR in Bobo
We had the pleasure to receive the local director of UNHCR at the LAP. It was is first visit and he was impressed by the quality of the environment proposed to the students.
We have only 5 students from refugees families. They are doing quiet well and are well integrated within the other students.
The LAP did not get any new refugee students since 3 years. The difficulty is the availability of funding. Today the 5 students are sponsored by the organsiation CREDO and from donations on GlobalGiving.
The funding cuts from the US are not helping to get new students at the LAP from refugees families.
In Burkina Faso there are over 1.200.000 of displaced people and 30.000 refugees. The displaced people have the priority for support.
We need your help to be able to accept additional students from refugees family.
Thank you.

Follow up on the refugees at the LAP

The 5 students refugees
In October 2024, the beginning of school year 2024-2025, we had 5 refugees at the LAP. Four have started their six year and one is in fourth year.
Due to the lack of funds, we have not taken new refugees at the LAP since 2021. The partners of UNHCR are decreasing their support towards the 30.000 refugees and allocating funds for the more than 2.000.000 displaced people. Taking into account the political situation of Burkina Faso, funders are not always positive towards this country.
Since we are a boarding school, the costs per student is around 3 times the costs per students of a regular school. We can however say that the success rate at national exams of our school is at least 4 times better than regular school.
Also the LAP is an agricultural school. Students coming out of the LAP have a much greater chance to find a job than the ones coming out of regular school.
Please help us have a new intake of refugees students at the LAP in October 2025.
Thank you.

Refugees in Burkina
By Herve Millet | Founder

new students at the LAP
Most of the 30.000 refugees in Burkina are coming from Mali.
The security situation has displaced over 2.000.000 Burkinabés. Even so some villagers are going back home, many are still refugees in their own country.
Two of our 12 villages were affected by terrorism. The parents of the students at the LAP from those villages could not afford to pay their school fees. This will be also the case for this new school year which has just started.
Villagers of those 2 villages were able to go home before the rainy season and things should get back to normal for the coming years.
Displaced children are often not going to school at all. This is not good for the future of Burkina.
We need your support in order to take more of those children at our school.
Thank you.
