Preliminary Report

By Evgenia Zheleznyak | Coordinator of the Medical project

In April, three massage therapists were hired in the Medical Aid department. They are qualified professionals, who effectively work with the children. 12 kids with children’s cerebral palsy and Down’s syndrome were selected to the specialists and started undergoing massage therapy sessions.

Additionally, five training seminars were conducted for movement instructors and volunteers. The seminars were led by a specialist in Bobath therapy, who has many years of experience working with children with severe disabilities. During each course they worked with 2-3 children from the dormitory where we work, the purpose of which was to design individualized rehabilitation programs.

We also provided for the supervision of Maria Belkina in hospital.  Maria had a neoplasm surgically removed. As it turned out, it had been a malignant tumor.

Besides that, two emergency trips to a clinic were arranged for two boys who needed teeth removed. This was necessary because the children were experiencing acute pain. After the operation, which was done under general anesthesia, the children were accompanied back to the children’s home.

At clinics we regularly conduct planned and emergency neurological, cardiological, ENT, nephrological, and orthopedic examinations at medical clinics. In April, with the help of our volunteers (by warrant of the children’s home) we provided for a gastrointestinal examination of Masha Vladimirova and selected an individual therapy program for her.
