This unique project wants to proof if visual therapy can help 16 kids with neurological diseases get better at their reading and writing skills.
The project started in 2021 by evaluating their ¨optometric¨ level, which included deep visual, perceptual, and motor analysis of each kid. This was done by an optometrist, a psychologist and a sport and physical education professional. Once this was done, an individualized program was created to be implemented inside the school.
Implementation started in January 2022 and the methodology was easy: each child would have an approximate time of 80 minutes of therapy per week, divided in individual sessions and in group sessions. Kids have been enjoying ¨playing¨ with cords that hang from the ceiling, with tables that have special lights and the like! Some of them have also acquire new glasses!
And we have also enjoyed… our president had the honor to receive a monetary award from the hands of the Spanish Queen.
Results are not clear yet, although many parents have informed about the betterment they have seen in their kids, about the head positioning, or the way the walk (now straighter), etc…
Final optometric evaluations start just next week and will last until the end of July. Results will be presented at the beginning of next school year, and we hope to see that our hypothesis is true!
