By Tonghai Yang | Founding director of HEF and Professor of Math.

hard working parents with 5 kids.

For the just passed summer, we have done the following:

0: Among more than 100 poor college students we support,  almost all of them do some volunteer work last year, and about 60 percent of them won some awards in school. Some of them won the prestigious National Achievement Award!!! Very impressive. Your donation has inspired them! We have supported some of them since 1st grade.

1. Prof.  Tonghai Yang visited 11 poor students at their homes together with local volunteers on July 2. We saw the first hand how your donation went to help  poor kids in real need. We also encouraged the students to stay strong and work hard. They are not alone. Please  check  http://www.hometowneducation.org/photos17-1.html and links there for Dr. Yang's viist.

2.  The Zhong Mei Ai Xin and Prof. Yang had a meeting  on July 7 with high school graduates who will go to colleges to talk about

a. how to adjust to college life and study,  and how to be successful in college. It was done by sharing experience by a college graduate and by Prof. Yang.

b.  Their responsibility for continuing receiving our support. Mr. Hu, the director of Zhong Mei Ai Xin, made it clear to them that they are now adults and have to earn support of you not only with their hard work in school but also good behavior and appreciation of the support. They should be ready to help the organization by volunteering  when they have time.

3.  Prof. Yang also gave a talk at a local company about the charity and was attended by over 100 local people. It was well received and reported in  local news. http://ahng.wenming.cn/wlwmcb/201707/t20170710_2772998.html

4.  Mr. Hu and a volunteer went to Jinzhai Hig School (Anhui) to talk with high school graduates and college students (we  supported) in late August about our program and also distributed the financial aid to them.

5. We will expand our service to Yi Yang county in Jiangxi with help of Prof. Guangmin Shi (at UW-Madison) and volunteers in Yi Yang this Fall.

6. We are updating our sponsorship information and are ready to collect updated information from poor students for support in 2017-18. We expect to support more students than  last years' 1205.

7. College volunteers organized by former students we supported go to rural elementary schools to teach and inspire the students there.  http://ahng.wenming.cn/jj/201708/t20170801_2783981.html
