Celebrating a Successful Summer!
Our summer Youth LEAP programs ended strong this summer, with programming at sites in Brooklyn and Harlem! Our Youth LEAPers in East New York, part of a summer program at Good Shepherd Services' Groundwork for Success, worked on a needs assessment to identify community strengths and needs. The LEAPers are looking forward to building on this knowledge in the fall so that they can better meet their goal of shopping local and keeping East New York's hard-earned money in the community!
At Children's Aid Society, our Youth LEAPers focused on the issue of teen pregnancy and the Trump Administration's efforts to significantly cut funding for Teen Pregnancy Prevention programs. At a fireside chat hosted by our LEAPers and youth and staff from Children's Aid Society and attended by elected officials and community members, young people made powerful arguments in favor of expanding existing funding so that sex education begins earlier. At the end of the presentation the young people received certificates for successfully completing their summer internships. We are so proud of them!
... and Getting Ready for a Powerful Fall!
As summer draws to a close we turn our attention to our fall programs. We are thrilled to be expanding our partnership with several successful sites from the spring, such as the Re-Start Academies for over-age and under-credited youth in the New York City public schools. We look forward to welcoming back many familiar faces among our part-time staff and volunteer facilitators! We are also recruiting passionate, innovative facilitators to work with us this fall!
