I have never been to school

Greetings from Empower Foundation! As we have entered a new year, I hope we learn and teach how to let go of the idea that “it’s too late”. It is truly never too late to change your life. It is never too late to become the person you have always hoped you could be.

We welcome students of our 6th and 7th batch at Kalsada village, Alwar and Shekhpur village, Allahabad. Classes have already begun at these centers. The excitement and eagerness are visible on the faces of these students. Students have shared how miserable they felt after putting thumb impressions on important documents and that too which are not read and understood.

Sharing the words of one of our students.

“My name is Sunita. I am 38 years old. I have never been to school. My identity in the bank is the name given by my husband and my thumb impression. My husband has no expectations from me; he is fine with the fact that I am illiterate. He doesn’t understand that it’s not about being illiterate it’s about one’s identity. So, when Sunita madam explained to me about Badlaav I couldn’t say no. I am learning how to identify various letters in Hindi. You should see the glow on my face when I try writing my name. With the help of Badlaav, I want to find the lost confidence in me”

Your continuous engagement is the best way to support us in reaching more women like Sunita. Just a small donation of $50 will help us conduct a session on Legal & Social Rights for 30 illiterate women. We need to raise $ 1, 36,174 more to fulfill our goal of 1000 women literate. Every drop helps! We would like to encourage you to start a recurring monthly donation for a small amount by clicking here.
