Project Report | Jul 18, 2014
The Flood were at it again!

By Andrew M.Niwagaba | Project Leader

A year after the devastating floods that left Kilembe valley in terrible shape, the floods were at it again and caused more destruction. There was no consideration that people were still nursing wounds and losses from the previous destruction. We are dealing with nature here and there are things we do not have control over, though man is also known to cause and accelerate certain disasters. The valley is in a much bigger mess than one would imagine. We have no idea when the next floods will hit again (thank God it is a dry season now), and seems like everyone is supposed to leave the valley and make way for redevelopment by the Chinese company that recently entered an agreement with government to mine and process copper in the valley. Eviction notices have been sent out to almost everyone in the valley save for those who have been lucky to get jobs from the new Chinese Company and the indigineous people in the surrounding hills.

While all this is happening, there is no doubt that some people need help and support because life has never been the same since the floods. What is more disturbing is that the organisation is currently going through tough times with our fundraising at its lowest. It is sad to note that we have not had any activity on this project simply becuase we did not have the funds to push us forward. We are however working out ways of overcoming this challenge and we need every support there is. We ask for your continued support.

The community still needs our help and support because of the circumstances and dilema we find ourselves in. We at the Foundation are hopeful and will continue to fight on so that we can achieve our obejectives. We however, will achieve our objective with your support. We are grateful always for the support and do hope that you will continue supporting the project. Thank you always
