For children who need access to hearing care, the KEX Kids Fund (KKF) is a welcome relief.
We provide support for hearing/audiology exams for those who are eligible. We also operate a KKF-funded loaner hearing aid program for children. This loaner program offers crucial equipment - hearing aids and the Roger/FM devices (microphones and receivers) - for use by families in their homes. Access to hearing exams and equipment help children learn to their potential and thrive at home by providing resources that may be out of reach for some families, especially now as the effects of the pandemic continue to be felt by working families.
Applications for hearing support (5) were low from September to December 2020. KKF partners with 13 audiology providers statewide. With most students not in school yet - but learning from home - it is more of a challenge to identify hearing issues and get them the help they need. School nurses have told us now that more schools are returning to in person instruction KKF can expect more applications. We anticipate an increase in applications for the rest of the school year.
Thank you for your support of our hearing program that gives children the medical care they need to thrive!
