450 primary school going refugee and host community girls at Fuda Primary School in Adjumani have so far received menstrual health kits and education. With this support from Voice for Humanity Uganda, the Headteacher Mr. John said ''We have noticed 70% increase in school attendance among girls who initially used to be absent from school between 5-10 school days per months. We are also seeing an improvement in academic performance among beneficiary girls he added''.
Limited access to Menstrual Health Kits among especially refugee school going girls is one of the leading causes of school absenteesm, poor academic performance and eventual drop out. Voice for Humanity Uganda through its Keep agirl in School project, has since 2016 supported over 10,000 girls with Menstrual Health Kits providing monthly pack of sanitary pads to each girl to ensure girls do not miss on their schoool due to periods. We have since seen many young girls complete their primary school with better grades.
With an investment of $12, we able able to keep a girl in school for a whole year with a monthly pack of sanitary pads and a piece of soap so she experiences her period with dignity while continuing with her studies. We are grateful to all our donors who have continued to make this work possible.
