This report aims to systematize the activities carried out during January, February, and March within the framework of the nutrition and comprehensive care project for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, implemented by the Pan Foundation.
During the reporting period, the scheduled monthly food packages were delivered, ensuring coverage, timeliness, and regularity in the distribution of nutritional support. Educational sessions planned in the work plan were also conducted, focusing on psychosocial and nutritional support, technical guidance, and capacity building for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
The implementation of the actions described contributes to the fulfillment of the project's overall objective, which is to provide comprehensive care to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability, especially those facing barriers to accessing adequate nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In this sense, the activities carried out constitute a significant contribution to improving the nutritional status and overall well-being of the beneficiary population.
The 100 participants benefiting from the nutrition and comprehensive care project for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers reside primarily in the El Ferry neighborhood of Barranquilla, as well as in surrounding areas such as Brisas del Río, Pasadena, Primero de Mayo, and La Chinita. These coverage areas were defined based on territorial accessibility criteria, aimed at facilitating the timely and safe transport of the beneficiaries and their children to the Foundation's facilities, ensuring they receive the services and support provided by the project.
During this period, no new enrollments were made because no child exceeded the age of two, and no pregnant mothers withdrew from the program. Therefore, the same beneficiaries continued to participate during these two months. Currently, the group of beneficiaries continues with the following classification:
- 27 mothers are pregnant
- 73 are breastfeeding mothers
Likewise, this population has the following characteristics:
- 17 mothers are minors, that is, 17 years old or younger
- 45 mothers are between 18 and 25 years old
- 38 mothers are 26 years old or older
During these months, the monthly delivery of food packages to each of the project's beneficiaries was carried out. These packages, previously organized and sealed, were distributed at the Foundation's facilities, ensuring compliance with established quality, safety, and hygiene standards. At each distribution, detailed information was provided about the included food items, as well as guidance on their proper preparation and consumption at home, taking into account the specific nutritional requirements of pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, as well as their children.
Furthermore, ongoing monitoring promotes the adoption of self-care practices and healthy lifestyles, and strengthens the connection between families and the health services network. In this way, an environment focused on prevention, timely care, and comprehensive treatment is consolidated, benefiting the overall well-being of the population served.
The development of educational workshops became a strategic action for promoting the overall well-being of pregnant and breastfeeding mothers involved in the project. Through training sessions focused on nutrition, physical health, and psychosocial support, knowledge and practical tools were provided to improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries and their children.
