The Season of Giving: New Year, Same Mission

Dear GlobeMed Friends and Family,

The holiday season is upon us, and our members and chapters are fully committed to this season of giving. For us, this marks the halfway point in our fundraising and academic years, and thus provides a great opportunity to present our chapter's accomplishments, reflections, and work so far since our last update. And of course, we are eager to let you all know what we have in store for the future.

On the heels of their successful trip this summer, our GROW interns have energized and inspired our chapter and members to commit wholeheartedly to our partnership and mission. They continue to present to our chapter on materials compiled on the trip such as interviews, ethnographies, etc. as well as detail various ways in which we could improve our partnership with SOVA.

We are also pleased to announce that both our chapter and SOVA will be welcoming several new individuals to the fold.  For SOVA, with the third and fourth trainee groups having just completed training(over 60 girls), a new set of trainees are preparing to embark on this transformative experience. Group 5, consisting solely of young women, will commence training in December and conclude in February. For our chapter, we have over twenty new members joining us, bringing new experiences, fresh perspectives, and even more passion to our efforts. We are eager to see just how far they will continue to lead our chapter forwards in the future.

For the past semester, our members have already been hard at work putting together several campaigns and fundraisers. In September, we held our first ever talent showcase, featuring performance groups from all across the University of Rochester. In October, we held our second annual Date Auction, where members from Greek life participated in a bidding style fundraiser in an enjoyable and educational evening as they participated in games while learning more about our work with SOVA. We are already hard at work preparing for our biggest fundraiser, the annual benefit dinner, which hosts individuals from the Rochester, university, and student communities, and is a hallmark event for our chapter to present our dedication and drive to securing global health equity. With the success of our completed fundraisers as well as the anticipated impact of our upcoming ones, we are confident and well on our way in reaching our $9000 goal to fund SOVA's medical training program.

Lastly, we have completed work on the first of a series of newsletters that we will be sending out quarterly, to keep all of you interested in our progress thus far, as well as what we have going on. Our latest update is that our GROW team for next year has already been selected and is in training, and we are excited to see how this year's trip can further cement our partnership.

As always, none of what we do would be possible with you, our dedicated donors and supporters. Your donations to GlobalGiving serve to keep this program going, and allow for communities in Odisha to have a dependable medical workforce and preventitive care. Every dollar you give goes towards allowing a young woman recognize her potential and pursue her medical dreams to in turn give back to her community. So indeed, it is a season of giving, and we wish you all the best for the holidays and the new year.

In Solidarity,
