Dear GlobeMed Friends and Family,
As we approach the end of another great fundraising year for our chapter and the transition to a new year, we thank you for all the support and well wishes that have fueled us this past year. Going into the summer, we have some exciting updates from our partner and our chapter.
In the past few months we carried out our 6th Annual Benefit dinner at the University of Rochester, featuring guest speakers Dr. Clinton Morrison and Dr. Howard Langstein, two plastic surgeons who along with their non-profit, work to educate and treat cleft lip and palate in the U.S and abroad. The night was a major success raising more funds for our partner, SOVA, as well as leaving attendees with a more definite understanding of our GlobeMed chapter and our vision for global health. Our last project of the year was our “Sweets for Sova” awareness campaign, where with the full support of all of our members, our chapter held a variety of advocacy and awareness events for a week, highlighting SOVA’s many projects that promote women’s advocacy, mental health and sexual health. Many of the students who participated in our campaign praised its multifaceted approach to informing and educating about the various aspects of global health. It was a great way to wrap up the semester and teach our campus a little more about our partnership with SOVA.
Now, as the summer approaches, our friends from SOVA are busy preparing the site in the Dhenkanal district to be ready for the arrival of our 2017 team of GROW interns. These passionate and dedicated individuals have prepared and will continue preparing themselves to have a professional conversation with our partner to discuss how we can each work to better our partnership. This will include working to streamline communication, set better developed goals, and ultimately, work towards shaping a future in which this project will be self sustainable and able to prosper without our involvement. Our chapter is preparing for the departure of our GROW interns in early August, collecting questions and ideas from a variety of chapter members.
We are proud to be partnered with SOVA and we are proud of what this project advocates. With the end of the year and the summer break comes a great time for reflection on our past year. Your support has helped both GlobeMed and SOVA immensely, and without committed donors our partnership would not be possible. We are excited for what the future holds and we look forward to your continued support throughout this partnership and beyond.
In solidarity,
GlobeMed at the University of Rochester
