Dear GlobeMed friends and family,
We are excited to inform you of some exciting updates from our partner, the Social Organization for Voluntary Action, in Odisha, India.
With two complete training cycles under their belt since last June, the Social Organization for Voluntary Action (SOVA) is so incredibly proud of the youth trainees who have excelled in this medical training program.
From June to December of 2016, sixty young women have earned placements as Medical Assistants at Community Health Centers in Srimula. SOVA board member, Dr. Lalit Nayak, was compelled by social impact of the girls' achievement, "we think that this program is making great strides in women's empowerment here in Dhenkanal, these young women are earning wages for their families and breaking boundaries in their homes."
SOVA reminds us of the magnitude of global partnerships and the power of advocacy. SOVA advocates for young women every day to encourage families to send their daughters through this training program so that they may receive a quality medical education. At the University of Rochester, our 2017 GROW team is preparing diligently to collect stories from local youth who have benefited from the program and how we can better communicate with SOVA to help them achieve their goals.
Right now, the current training cycle is underway and the trainees in Srimula are scheduled for graduation on April 15th. The youth trainees have been extremely busy with the completion of a new youth center and sexual health program. Your support has helped both GlobeMed and SOVA immensely, without committed donors our partnership would not be possible. We look forward to your continued support.
In solidarity,
GlobeMed at the University of Rochester
