Project Report | May 26, 2026
Venezuelan Amazon and Delta Amacuro

By Sagrario Santorum | Head of development

Reporting period: January 2026 – April 2026

During this four-month period, Fundación Nativo continued strengthening its work with Indigenous communities in the Venezuelan Amazon while also expanding its activities into a new territory: Delta Amacuro, home to the Warao people.

In addition to continuing our support initiatives related to access to medicines and community health, Fundación Nativo began an internal capacity-building process through the project “Potencia Tu Impacto”, implemented together with the organization Equilibrium and financed by the Swiss Embassy in Venezuela. This training process is helping strengthen our institutional capacities, project management skills, and long-term sustainability.

We also initiated a collaboration with the women artisans of the organization Tejidos de Dignidad to support quality control processes for their traditional basketry, with the goal of facilitating access to international markets and creating sustainable income opportunities for Indigenous artisan communities.

A major milestone during this period was the incorporation of Delta Amacuro into our current area of community coverage. Together with Warao communities, we have begun developing several socio-productive initiatives focused on the sustainable collection and production of natural products such as tonka bean (sarrapia), coconut oil, and andiroba oil.

At the same time, Fundación Nativo has started the mapping of communities that will participate in these projects, as preparation for a future medical health mission in the region involving specialized healthcare professionals.

These actions represent an important step toward expanding our impact, strengthening Indigenous livelihoods, and improving access to healthcare and sustainable economic opportunities in remote territories.

We sincerely thank all GlobalGiving donors and supporters for making this work possible. Your contributions continue to help us build long-term, community-centered impact in Indigenous territories across Venezuela.
