Give Medical Care to 3500 Venezuelan Indigenous

As we mentioned in our previous report, we have been working all year to bring medical help to the indigenous communities of the lower Caura during the month of February 2019.

But, just as we were about to begin our health mission, there was an armed conflict between the indigenous communities of Santa Elena de Uairén and the government of Nicolás Maduro (due to the entry of humanitarian aid) that caused the entire area to be militarized and prevented our entry to the place.

We decided to delay the mission until April of this year with the hope that normality in the area was already recovered but, to this day, the Venezuelan army continues to impede access to the indigenous communities of the area.

As the rainy season is starting and most of our journey will be through the Caura River, it is wiser to wait until the rainy season ends to try to reach the indigenous communities with the medical help they so much need.

Tal y como comentamos en nuestro informe anterior,hemos estado todo el año trabajando para llevar ayuda médica a las comunidades indígenas del bajo Caura durante el mes de febrero de 2019.

Pero, justo cuando íbamos a iniciar nuestra misión sanitaria, se produjo un conflicto armado entre las comunidades indígenas de Santa Elena de Uairén y el gobierno de Nicolás Maduro (a causa de la entrada de la ayuda humanitaria) que provocó que se militarizase toda la zona y se impidiese nuestra entrada al lugar.

Decidimos retrasar la misión hasta el mes de Abril de este año con la esperanza de que la normalidad en la zona ya estuviese recuperada pero, a día de hoy, el ejército venezolano sigue impidiendo el acceso a las comunidades indígenas de la zona.

Como la temporada de lluvias está empezando y la mayoría de nuestro recorrido será a través del río Caura, es más prudente esperar a que termine la época de lluvias para intentar llegar a las comunidades indígenas con la ayuda médica que ellos tanto necesitan.
