Despite terrible weather in the early part of January the project has continued without interruption. The severe cold and limited food vouchers have had an effect, however, with a significant increase in respiratory tract infections and hospital admissions. With road conditions also making travel difficult the need for mobile health services for refugees is even greater than it was.
Over the next month further measles and polio vaccination campaigns are planned, together with an increased focus on reproductive health services for female refugees. Our project will be provided with additional educational material and contraceptive supplies by a joint Lebanese Ministry of Public Health/UN Population Fund initiative.
And finally we are extrmely pleased to announce that Islamic Relief will be taking over the financial support of the project from April 2015 onwards, allowing IDEALS to focus on providing technical support for our local partner, Blue Mission. This guarantees the ongoing provision of vital health services for our beneficiaries for another 18 months, whilst providing the perfect opportunity to build clinical and administrative capacity within Blue Mission.
