Project Report | Jun 18, 2026
Health Guardians

By Pilar Martin | Head of philantropy

Efforts have focused on strengthening the local health system by providing direct health services through multidisciplinary mobile units, including sexual and reproductive health consultations, palliative care and mental health services. Contributions have been made to strengthening the health system through capacity-building for healthcare staff, the refurbishment of centres and the provision of medical and non-medical equipment.

In addition, the continuous supply of essential resources, such as hygiene kits and assistive devices for people with disabilities or reduced mobility, has been ensured.

Particular attention has been paid to building the capacity of the local health system in order to provide a sustainable response and strengthen its resilience in the face of current challenges, by strengthening local leadership, implementing incentive and advocacy activities, and delivering training courses on mental health programmes such as: Action to Close the Mental Health Gap (29 medical professionals upgraded their qualifications, integrating mental health support into primary healthcare services), Problem Management Plus and Do What Matters (57 people were trained to organise group support sessions to help people manage stress and stay focused on what really matters, despite the uncertainty and chaos that war can cause).

The programme, which is always carried out in collaboration with public health institutions, focuses on isolated rural areas, addressing the needs of the elderly population, who suffer from a lack of services exacerbated by the war.
