FOUR YEARS AND WAR CONTINUES

By Pilar Martin | Head of philantropy

Today, February 24, 2026, marks four years since the start of the war in Ukraine, a conflict that continues to leave deep human and social wounds. On this anniversary, we want to remember not only the devastating impact that the Ukrainian population continues to suffer, but also Médicos del Mundo's ongoing commitment to humanitarian response.

Since 2014, Médicos del Mundo has been working in Ukraine to facilitate access to healthcare in the regions most affected by the war. With the outbreak of large-scale conflict in 2022, our intervention has become even more essential.

Currently, our efforts are focused particularly on the most vulnerable areas, where access to health services has been severely limited. Our strategy is firm and clear: to bring care to where people are.
Our teams travel directly to villages, small towns, and homes, overcoming geographical barriers and security difficulties. On the ground, they:
• Provide primary care consultations.
• They distribute essential medicines.
• They provide support for the management of chronic diseases.
• They facilitate referrals and hospitalizations when necessary.
• They offer assistance to people who would otherwise be completely without medical care.

For many Ukrainians, this close presence means avoiding dangerous or impossible journeys, especially in areas close to the front line.

Our teams travel directly to villages and homes. They offer primary care consultations, distribute essential medicines, support the management of chronic diseases, facilitate referrals and

The war in Ukraine continues. Needs are evolving, but they are not diminishing. Although the healthcare system has not collapsed, access to care remains under constant threat.

By bringing healthcare directly to people, strengthening local services, and addressing both physical and mental health needs, Médicos del Mundo continues to support communities living under the weight of prolonged conflict.

This assistance remains essential. And for thousands of people, it is simply a matter of life and death.
