Still children of the Gaza Strip are facing tremendous challenges and needs to continue their lives and grow healthily in light of the acute shortage of resources. On top of their needs is the access to health care services, which has recently declined due to the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, mainly the scheduled surgeries in the MoH, which were stopped due to the accumulation of humanitarian crises including the transmission of COVID19 and the temporary delay to decrease the infection. This put the lives of children at risk, in light of the deterioration of the socio-economic situation, and most of the population can’t afford paying the fees of the needed health services.
This collected fund and up-to-date, came to fill a real need of which we succeeded to conduct (7) free of charge surgical operations at Al Awda hospital for (7) children patients registered on the waiting lists in the Ministry of Health (MoH) out of 3000 registered patients, who are waiting for their turn for a period that may exceed 12 months due to the deterioration in the health services provided in the MoH as a result of the unjust siege, repeated Israeli military escalations and Palestinian political internal division.
The 7 surgical operations conducted were classified as follows:
- (2) tonsillectomy surgical operation targeting:
o (1) boy aged (10) years old.
o (1) girl aged (8) years old.
- (2) inguinal Henria surgical operation targeting:
o (1) girl aged (6) years old.
o (1) boy aged (12) years old.
- (1) Anal Fissure surgical operation targeting a boy aged (13) years old.
- (1) Hypospadias surgical operation targeting a boy aged (2) years old.
- (1) umbilical hernia surgical operation targeting (1) girl aged (11) years old.
After conducting the needed surgical operations, the 7 children followed up with the specialists, and they had the right to grow naturally, and to avoid the consequences of delaying the surgical operation which is one of the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and this contributed to the recovery of children from their diseases, which contributes to stabilizing their psychological situation.
