Parbati is a 23 years old woman lives in the village of Kuemuri in the district of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India. Looking at their situation, it can be clearly understood that the family is poverty stricken and comes under the BPL. They do not have their own agricultural land. Her husband does not have proper regular work as sometimes he travels to the city to bring materials at a whole sale rate for zari work for the rural women. This is not a permanent job and sometimes he remains as jobless.
During her pregnancy the health workers of Sabuj Sangha visited her and suggested that she should be visiting the mobile health camps of Sabuj Sangha whenever organized in her area for the checkups. They explained that it is imperative since the first child was suffering from malnutrition; therefore checkups by expert doctors are mandatory.
Parbati was convinced and understood the importance of checkup in the mobile health camps. On one hand it is economical as at the rate of Rs. 150, all members of the family can do the health checkups with accessing free medicines. Her second delivery was absolutely fine with normal delivery and proper weight of the baby. Presently, both are in good health.
Parbati says “My first delivery cost was Rs. 1000 and moreover the delivery caused problems. But this time, I am very happy and excited that I had a perfect delivery with a healthy child whereas the first child was suffering from malnutrition. I am very happy and excited with the behaviour and services of the doctors and nurses and will come back to take such services for other purposes too through mobile health camps for my entire family.”
